Your films and shows, in Apple's own player, the way they were made.

Most files play straight from the file

For most films and shows, your server just sends the file and Kale plays it on the Apple TV, iPhone or iPad itself, in Apple's own player. Nothing is converted, which keeps starts quick and leaves your server free.

What your server helps with

For the rest, Kale asks your server to convert the file as it plays, which is what Jellyfin is built to do. You'll usually notice only a slightly longer start. A busy or modest server may take a little longer, and Kale tells you when your server is doing the work.

Picture, sound and subtitles

• 4K, HDR and cinema sound come through intact when your TV and sound system support them.
• Subtitles work whichever kind your files carry, including subtitles stored as pictures.
• Soundtracks and subtitles are remembered for each film and series, on each device.

What you need

• A Jellyfin server that you or someone in your household already runs. Kale works with Jellyfin 10.11 and 12.1, the current release.
• Apple TV with tvOS 26 or later, or iPhone and iPad with iOS and iPadOS 18 or later.
