How the household works

One library. Everyone in the house.

The person who runs the server shouldn't have to be the household's help desk. Kale gives everyone their own way in, and keeps the rules where they belong: on your server.

Everyone signs in from the couch

On the Apple TV, choose your name, or Add someone. The TV shows a short code. Approve it with one tap in Kale on your iPhone or iPad, and the TV lands on that person's own Home.

New to the house? When you approve the code, you can make their account right there: give it a name and choose which libraries they can see. Nothing is ticked until you choose, and nobody has to read a password out across the room.

People who prefer to can still sign in with a username and password.

Limits that live on your server

For each person, choose a highest rating, whether to hide titles that have no rating, and which libraries they can see. You set them from Kale on your iPhone or iPad; the Apple TV shows them but doesn't change them.

Limits are stored on your server, so they apply in every app, not just Kale. Anyone who opens a different app on the same server still gets the same limits.

Rating limits depend on the ratings your library carries. A title with no rating is only hidden if you turn on Hide unrated titles. And one setting is Kale's own rather than your server's: Search beyond your library. Kale says so right beside it, because your server can't enforce it in other apps.

A wishlist, not a free-for-all

If your household runs Seerr, connect it in Kale and anyone can ask for a film or show from the couch. Requests arrive on your phone to approve.

Choose who can ask, who can add titles without asking, and who can approve other people's requests.
